What is the procedure involving dental implants?
The procedure involves a thorough assessment at your initial check up. This assessment is to establish the health of your teeth and gums. If gum disease or decay is present this must be treated first. In some cases we will need a CT scan. This is to establish the anatomical structure of the bone where the implant will be placed. We refer our patients to CT Dent in Devonshire Place where the scan costs £120 and takes just 20 minutes.
At the implant placement appointment, we offer you local anaesthesia or IV sedation for very anxious patients. During the procedure, the gum where the implant will be placed is cut and lifted and a small hole is drilled. We use Nobel Biocare Titanium implants, known globally for their superior and unsurpassed quality. This Titanium implant is tightly fitted into the small hole and the gum is stitched back over the implant. In some cases a bone graft is required if there is insufficient bone material to support the implant, however, Dr. Raza will inform you at the consultation stage if a bone graft is required.
After the placement of the implant, the healing process begins. This process is between 6 weeks to 6 months and allows the implant to integrate firmly into the jawbone and accept it so it may act in future like an artificial root. During the healing process you will be wearing a temporary crown, bridge or denture over the implant.
Good oral hygiene is always stressed to promote healing of the implant. We recommend all our patients having dental implant treatment to join level 4 of our exclusive Smile for Life Patient Plan. It entitles you up to 20% off dental implants and is designed to help you keep on top of your dental health hygiene. Find out more or apply online.
After the gum has healed, it is again lifted so that a post can be attached to the implant. This post is fitted with a temporary crown for between 4 to 6 weeks. After this the temporary crown is removed and we fit your final porcelain crown or bridge.
What are the advantages of dental implants?
• Dental implants are the closest solutions to real teeth and have been accepted as a tried and tested method to replace missing teeth by dental professionals for over 40 years.
• Dental Implants can last a life time with proper care and therefore provide a long term solution.
• They are made of biocompatible material which is readily accepted by the body.
• Dental Implants act like natural tooth roots and feel totally natural like your own teeth.
• Dental Implants provide a minimally invasive solution compared to dental bridges.
• One of the most important advantages of dental implants is that they support simulation of bone, maintaining it and minimizing further bone loss.
What are the advantages of dental implants over bridges and dentures?
• Dental implants are minimally invasive as compared to bridges because when placing dental implants, there no need to grind down adjacent natural teeth.
• Dental implants provide better quality of life and better hygiene as they are easier to clean unlike bridges and dentures. Dental implants are taken care of just like your natural teeth – regular brushing, flossing, dental check ups and hygiene appointments will ensure healthy implants (and teeth) for a lifetime!
• Dental implants provide the best function – dentures can move around, become loose, start hurting or cause inflamed gums. Implants, on the other hand, act like your own teeth and provide comfort and stability.
• Dental implants support bone structure and minimize bone loss which can occur if you are left with a hole where your tooth root used to be. This process is known as atrophy – loss of bone structure in your gums. This is perhaps the most important advantage of replacing missing teeth with dental implants rather than bridges or dentures.

Are you a candidate for dental implants?
Do you have missing teeth which you have been ignoring? This can cause further oral health complications by affecting remaining healthy teeth.
• Missing teeth can affect the positioning of other teeth causing a misfit of the upper and lower jaw. This can cause headaches and stiffness in muscles and joints in your neck, shoulders and back.
• Ignoring missing teeth can also result in loss of bone density because if you are left with a hole where the tooth root used to be, the bone around it will start to deteriorate. This process is known as bone atrophy. Bone loss can make the jaw line change as it shrinks, which can often make you look older than you are.
If you wear dentures, you may experience problems with an uncomfortable or an insecure fit causing pain or even an embarrassing situation socially. Dental implants act like your own teeth and provide stability and comfort. Dental implants can support a denture giving it a secure and comfortable fit.
We help clients across South Kensington, Chelsea, Fulham, Sloane Square, Knightsbridge, Kensington, Gloucester Road, Battersea, Clapham and all across London and the UK replace missing teeth with modern dental implants.
